Yiming Wang Ph.D. in Mass Communications University of Wisconsin-Madison
I am a political communication scholar, and I received my Ph.D. in Mass Communications, with a doctoral minor in Political Science, from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and I am currently a Senior Policy Researcher at APPRISE and a Research Fellow at Public Tech Media Lab.
I study how the structure of the political information environment shapes polarization in the United States, through the incentives it gives elites and the news habits it fosters in citizens, and what this costs democratic accountability. My work has been published in Public Opinion Quarterly, Political Communication, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Journalism, and Telematics and Informatics.
Methodologically, I use surveys, experiments, computational methods, and causal inference to identify mechanisms and estimate effects. At APPRISE, I extend this approach to policy evaluation, studying how policy interventions perform in real-world settings.
Before coming to Wisconsin, I received my M.A. in Journalism and Communication from Fudan University and my B.A. in Philosophy from Renmin University of China.
